Are you really an insomniac? Answer these 11 questions to find out.

Take our Sleep Quiz to find out if you suffer from insomnia.  The questions are based on typical insomnia signs which will help determine whether you an insomniac.

The word “insomnia” is often over- or misused.  If you have the occasional bad night (who doesn’t?) but sleep just fine most of the time, then you don’t suffer from insomnia.

Insomnia signs are characterized by persistent sleep disturbance and poor quality sleep at night and is typically followed by functional impairment during the day.

Answer the following 10 questions to find out if you may be suffering from insomnia.

    1. Do you experience difficulty sleeping?
    2. Do you have difficulty falling asleep?
    3. Do you have difficulty staying asleep for the whole night?
    4. Do you wake up very early in the morning, even if you went to bed late?
    5. If you wake at night, so you have trouble getting back to sleep?
    6. Do you lie awake at night worrying, even if you are really tired?
    7. Does it take you more than 30 minutes to fall asleep?
    8. Do you wake up in the morning feeling that you haven’t had enough sleep?
    9. Do you involuntarily fall asleep during the day, perhaps while watching TV or even driving?
    10. Do you go to bed worrying that you won’t be able to get to sleep?
    11. Do you have at least one of the following problems?

Low energy
Lack of motivation
Attention, concentration or memory problems
Poor performance at school or work
Extreme mood changes
Daytime sleepiness
Trouble making errors at work or while driving
Tension, headaches or stomach aches
Frustration or worry about your sleep

If you answered yes to any three of these questions, you may be suffering from insomnia signs.  As with any self-diagnosis, however, you should have the diagnosis confirmed by your doctor before starting any form of treatment for the condition.
